Habitat for Humanity’s 2016 Builders Blitz ended in Portland on June, 10th, 2016 with a celebration to dedicate two homes, both built from start-to-finish, in under a month. Thanks to the hard work of Schumacher Custom Homes and Noyes Development, the Le-Luong and Triplett families received the keys to their new homes at Habitat’s 21-home Helensview build in Cully.
With a lunch provided by NW Natural, guests were treated to a grand tour of the completed homes, highlighting the energy efficiency and accessibility needs for elderly and handicapped family members. Kurt Creager from the Portland Housing Bureau and City Commissioner Dan Saltzman were in attendance, both speaking on the importance of affordable housing in Portland as gentrification, rising home prices, and rising rents continue to displace low-income residents.
Portland/Metro East’s two-home build was just a small part of Habitat for Humanity International’s Home Builders Blitz, which takes place all around the world simultaneously, challenging local builders and suppliers to chip in to build homes at an accelerated pace.
