The Barg Family
Brian Barg and his wife, Angelica, can see their future right outside their bedroom window, literally. The couple currently live with Brian’s brother in an aging mobile home located across the street from Jubilee Commons in Gresham. They pay rent to live in the mobile home, but are struggling to live in the cramped space with little privacy. Brian works full-time as a landscaper but has never been able to afford to buy a home.
Brian learned how to apply for homeownership with Habitat when he and his wife were walking home from dropping their car off at a repair shop. They asked a volunteer on the construction site about the program and decided that it was for them. Since being accepted into the program, Angelica has helped accrue sweat equity at the Portland ReStore during the week. On Saturdays, the couple work side-by-side on the construction site.
“We’ve built stairs together, framed walls and installed siding,” said Brian. “Getting involved with Habitat has been a really good thing for us as a couple. We are so blessed to be future homeowners.”
