The Bati Family
Ahimed Hussein Bati and Badatu Shegeda Korbino live with their four children in a three-bedroom apartment with problems that the manager will not fix. There are broken closet and bedroom doors, a hole in the living room floor, and problems with the bathroom plumbing. Their neighbors smoke regularly outside their apartment, so they can’t open their windows for fresh air. Ahimed is afraid to move, because he fears he won’t be able to afford housing anywhere else. The Bati’s look forward to building a decent house with Habitat to call their ‘home,’ and to live a better life.
Construction on the Bati home is underway at Habitat’s Rivergate Commons in north Portland. Their home has been graciously sponsored by Erickson Air-Crane Inc., Walsh Construction Co., The Safeway Foundation and Safeway Employees of District 72.
