Family Bios: The Kibret Family
Mekuria ‘Mike’ Bonga and his wife, Abeba Tesfa, have two boys Henock, 5, and Matiyos, 4. Mike works in customer service at a local hospital, and his positive attitude and wonderful smile go a long way in his line of work. Abeba works in the dry cleaning industry. Even though both parents work hard they can’t find affordable rent and have been paying $725 a month for a two-bedroom apartment with mold and thin walls. They have seen their neighbors using drugs, and cigarette smoke comes in through the closets. They feel the neighborhood is unsafe for their kids, and it’s too risky to have them play outside.
Mike learned about Habitat though the web when he was searching for new housing opportunities and decided to apply. The Bonga family is so excited to be in the Habitat program! They are looking forward to meeting the other 11 families who will be living at Rivergate. Most of all they are excited to have a safe, stable place for their kids to play and interact with other children.
