Habitat’s Team Builder Program is designed especially for groups to come together for a fun and productive day of service with Habitat for Humanity. The combination of volunteer hours and a financial donation doubles your group’s impact toward our mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities in the Portland Metro area.

How it Works

Choose between three distinct experiences that engage volunteers in hands-on tasks while encouraging teamwork and camaraderie.

Habitat provides all the tools, materials, training and supervision needed–no prior experience necessary! By the end of a Team Builder day, your group will be connected with each other and with the community in a truly unique way. Whether you’re on the construction site, building playhouses, or volunteering with a Habitat ReStore, knowing that your actions are making a difference in the lives of families and individuals in need of a decent place to live will leave your group feeling inspired and invigorated.

Team Builder Programs

Home Building Experience

  • Full day, 7-hour builds offered Thursday—Saturday, 8:30am—3:30pm.
  • 5 – 30 participants
  • Cost: $1,500 – $3,500, depending on group size

Every helping hand on the construction site builds a stronger community for Portland families and individuals to flourish. From framing and raising walls, to carefully applying the last coat of paint, every task has a purpose. Habitat homes are largely built by volunteers; no experience is necessary. Habitat’s skilled construction staff will guide you through all tasks, big or small. No matter your tool, be it paintbrush or hammer, at the end of the day, you can look back on your progress and know your efforts are building strength and self-reliance through homeownership. Playhouse Experience Coming Soon!

  • Half day, 4.5-hour builds offered Monday through Friday
  • Each playhouse accommodates 10-12 participants
  • Cost: $2,500 (Option to host the Playhouse Experience at your location for an added fee of $500 to cover travel and logistics.)

Having a safe place to play is important for every child. That’s why the Playhouse Experience invites teams of volunteers to assemble and decorate children’s playhouses, which are then donated to families through our partner nonprofit The Dougy Center. Volunteers can show off their creativity by decorating each playhouse to fit the fun theme chosen by the recipient family, along with working together on tasks such as shingling the roof or attaching the playhouse trim. Your team’s Playhouse Experience donation not only gives children a space to call their own, it directly supports building more decent, affordable homes in the Portland Metro area.

ReStore Experience

  • Half day, 3.5-hour builds offered on the third Thursday and last Friday of every month at the Portland ReStores on SE Cherry Blossom and NE 181st Ave.
  • 5—15 participants
  • Cost: $1,500

You don’t need a hammer to build a house! Habitat for Humanity ReStores raise money to build homes through the sale of donated new and used home improvement goods. In this fast-paced environment, your group will help sort and organize merchandise such as furniture, appliances, hardware, power tools, and clothing, or work on special projects based on the day’s inventory. With the help of volunteers like you, Habitat ReStores divert thousands of tons of reusable materials from ending up in landfills each year. It’s hard work, but it’s also great fun because you know your efforts are about building community, and building it together. One thing is certain—with the ReStore Experience, every day offers something new!
