Habitat Mourns the Loss of a Friend: Sky Khalsa

Former Habitat employee and friend, Sky Khalsa, passed away on October 16th. Sky was born in Hood River, Oregon on June 11th, 1960. He graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1978 and received his Associates Degree from ITT Technical Institute. Sky served as construction manager for both Portland Habitat and Mt. Hood Habitat from 1999-2007 and most recently worked for Walsh Construction Company. In his time with Habitat, he led thousands of volunteers in the building of more than 50 homes for over 150 kids whose lives were changed by his work. He is survived by his sister Cheryl Martinis of Salem, Oregon. Those of us who knew Sky will always remember him for his big heart, his all out passion for music, fishing and his spiritual love of the outdoors.
An informal gathering and toast to Sky’s memory will be held on Monday, November 22nd from 5:30-7:30 at the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub at 915 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland.
Please share a memory you have of Sky, by signing the guest book located here. Our staff has also put together a set of Habitat photos that feature Sky. Please feel free to view them by clicking here.
