HabiCorps Volunteers are an elite crew of individuals who commit a steady donation of time and effort to Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing. Much like a staff member, HabiCorps have specific roles and responsibilities that are vital to the daily operation of the organization. Their dedication and impact are immeasurable and are proof that investment in neighborhoods and communities makes our city a better place for everyone.

We are currently seeking HabiCorps volunteers for the following positions:

HabiCorps NRI Assistant

Unpaid Opportunity in the Construction Department

Responsibilities

  • Lead volunteers and homeowners on construction tasks
  • Ability to learn and teach complex construction techniques in an empowering and accessible way
  • Maintain compliance with Habitat safety protocols at the build site
  • Help to create a work environment that is cheerful, productive and inclusive of all (homeowners, regular volunteers, new volunteers and staff)

Required

  • Experience leading crews of volunteers
  • Some residential remodeling experience
  • Able to volunteer two 8-hour shifts per month for 6 months, Wednesday – Saturday
  • Age 18 or older
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Maneuver over uneven ground
  • Ability to stand most or all of day
  • Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions

HabiCorps Videographer

Unpaid Opportunity in the Communications/Volunteer Department
Supervisor: Director of Communications/ Manager of Volunteer Programs

Responsibilities
Habitat for Humanity seeks an experienced and talented videographer to create a 3 to 5 minute video that will be used as a volunteer orientation. This project  will include working with the Habitat staff to create a video concept and script, shooting footage out on a Habitat site, and editing the footage into a 3 to 5 minute video piece that will be used on our website. Ideal candidates would use their own video and editing equipment, but would be provided an external harddrive to store all of the video data.

  • Work closely with Director of Communications and Manager of Volunteer Programs to create video concept and script.
  • Facilitate production schedule, shooting of footage and editing of piece.

Required

  • Strong communications skills
  • Desire to share the Habitat mission
  • Well organized and self-motivated
  • Working knowledge of video and editing software

HabiCorps Homeownership Program Administrative Support

Unpaid Opportunity in the Homeownership Programs Department
Supervisor: Homeownership Program Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic administrative support of Homeownership staff including copying, scanning and filing
  • Enter sweat equity data into the Raiser’s Edge and Excel
  • Print and prepare sweat equity reports and other mailings for the department
  • Help make reminder or follow up phone calls to partner families
  • Update, orgainize and help maintain family data, files, documents and spreadsheets
  • Respond to inquiries from potential homeowners regarding the Homeownership Program and/or Family Seleciton process
  • Research, organize and update community resources and create a comprehensive resource list for staff and the website to better communicate with inquiring pubic and partner families
  • Collect income proof and calculate monthly income of partner families on a bi-annual basis and help with applicant income calculations
  • Help prepare documents, packets and manuals for any upcoming family selection rounds
  • Other duties as necessary

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to work with low-income families of very diverse backgrounds
  • Proficiency in a second language a plus
  • Proficiency in Razor’s Edge data system a plus
  • Interest in and commitment to low-income homeownership
  • Detailed orientated and organized with strong time management skills
  • MS Word, Excel computer skills
  • Working knowledge of Razor’s Edge program a plus
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for long periods of time
  • High level of interpersonal skills

Note: This position is for 8-10 hours per week.
