HabiCorps Volunteers are an elite crew of individuals who commit a steady donation of time and effort to Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing. Much like a staff member, HabiCorps have specific rolls and responsibilities that are vital to the daily operation of the organization. Their dedication and impact are immeasurable and are proof that investment in neighborhoods and communities makes our city a better place for everyone.

We are currently seeking HabiCorps volunteers for the following positions:

HabiCorps NRI Assistant

Unpaid Opportunity in the Construction Department

Responsibilities:

  • Lead volunteers and homeowners on construction tasks
  • Ability to learn and teach complex construction techniques in an empowering and accessible way
  • Maintain compliance with Habitat safety protocols at the build site
  • Help to create a work environment that is cheerful, productive and inclusive of all (homeowners, regular volunteers, new volunteers and staff)

Required:

  • Experience leading crews of volunteers
  • Some residential remodeling experience
  • Able to volunteer two 8-hour shifts per month for 6 months, Wednesday – Saturday
  • Age 18 or older
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Maneuver over uneven ground
  • Ability to stand most or all of day
  • Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions

HabiCorps Website Developer

Unpaid Opportunity in the Communications Department
Supervisor: Communications Coordinator

Responsibilities
Habitat for Humanity seeks and experienced and talented web developer to assistant the communications team. This will include assisting in development and continuous improvement of the Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East website, proactively suggesting new website improvements and features. Proficiency with WordPress, CSS and HTML is required. Ideal candidates should work well with team members on website development, troubleshooting web-related issues, performing general web site maintenance and other web development tasks as needed.

  • Work closely with Communications Coordinator to problem-solve, troubleshoot, create and update functionality for habitatportlandmetro.org. Establish clear project timeline to ensure completion of tasks.
  • On call (mostly via email) for website assistance when needed and during an emergency.
  • Facilitate WordPress product and service updates, interactive maintenance and overall improvements to the website.
  • Provide assistance with HTML coding when needed for website content or e-communications.
  • Monitor industry trends, technologies, and standards and be able to research, recommend, and apply new technologies as necessary.
  • Ensure layout of website content is accessible and intuitive; recommend improvements as necessary.

Required

  • Strong communications skills
  • Desire to share the Habitat mission
  • Well organized, self-motivated and able to work as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, themes and plugins, web servers, CSS and HTML
  • Knowledge of integrating Google Analytics and Social Media
  • Knowledge of best practices for nonprofit communications
  • Working remotely is preferred, with the possibility of face-to-face meetings when needed.

HabiCorps Prospecting Specialist

Unpaid Opportunity in the Development Department
Supervisor: Director of Volunteer Programs and Corporate Engagement

Responsibilities

  • Assist Development Department with research of local companies and individuals
  • Assist Development Department in cultivation of local companies and individuals
  • Assist in database maintenance
  • Support numerous Habitat for Humanity events such as the Hope Builder Breakfast through outreach activities
  • Other duties as necessary

Required

  • Able to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per week between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm.
  • Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission
  • MS Word, Excel and general computer proficiency
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to be seated at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Information oriented
  • Strong internet search skills
