It Takes a Community — plus tools, roofing shingles, windows, doors, licensed tradespeople and builders

  • More families than ever need a hand up.
  • My company may be small, but this is one way we can really make a difference.
  • Everyone here at the company loved doing it.
  • Because it’s fun.

These are just a few reasons why Portland and Gresham based businesses support Habitat’s mission through in-kind contributions of home building materials and professional services.
Walsh Construction Co. has committed to taking a two-bedroom duplex at Southeast 171st and Division Street from foundation through sheetrock. The value of this donation is estimated at $75,000, but the effects stretch beyond a normal dollar figure. Walsh Construction Co. is also supervising the home through these building phases which extends Habitat’s capacity to manage simultaneous projects.
CalPortland has built on its partnership with Walsh Construction Co. to extend exceptional pricing on concrete to Habitat for all homes situated on the site where Walsh is making a Habitat in-kind donation. For the first 22 homes at Southeast 171st and Division Street, they are providing a discount to Habitat valued at $50,000—nearly enough to build an entire home!
Jed’s Custom Drywall had so much fun pitching in on the last Women Build home, that they offered to install sheetrock and provide mudding and taping services at no charge again for the 2012 Women Build home.
When Jordan Bader, president of Acme Construction Supply Co., came out to the build site, he noticed that some tools volunteers and future homeowners were using showed too much wear and tear. He graciously decided to open up a line of credit, allowing the affiliate to repair and order new tools as needed.
Classique Floors is a Gresham-based flooring company who has stepped up to donate complete flooring materials for two homes every year, plus provides top-quality flooring materials at or below cost.
Malarkey Roofing Supply Co. has quietly supported Habitat’s statewide homebuilding efforts for over a decade. They will donate locally made architectural shingles for every home Habitat builds in Portland and Gresham next year.
This summer, residential builders will answer Habitat’s national call to participate in the Home Builders Blitz 2012. Schumacher Custom Homes is among those who will take a Habitat home from foundation through final inspection in just five days. Their subcontractors and suppliers will each donate materials and time to help deliver these homes at little or no cost to Habitat.
With 45 homes slated for construction at Southeast 171st and Division Street — more in-kind support is still needed. If you know of a company, large or small, who would like to step up by providing in-kind support, please click here!
