Future Builds
Rivergate
Rivergate will be a 12-home condominium project on a large site purchased from the adjacent Rivergate Community Church on N. Lombard Street. The church approached Habitat in 2008 in their search for a developer of housing to support the congregation’s socially conscious desire for a project that serves the community. Habitat was able to purchase this property at a discounted price with financial support from the Portland Development Commission. Habitat will design and build four tri-plexes to meet the needs of families currently fulfilling their sweat equity.
The lot is bordered on three sides by city streets which allow the front entrance of each home to be close to the street. The triangular shape of the lot will provide a large community space for a play structure and gardens in the area between the two tri-plexes on both N. Newman and N. Olin Avenues.
The development is now in the initial phase of design. Habitat anticipates breaking ground in 2010.

Mary Bounvassana lives with her two children Jeremias, 12, and Alicia, 10. Mary is a single mom and works as a bank teller. They live in a two-bedroom apartment that is poorly insulated, with an extensive mold problem which has caused both of her children asthma. The bathroom sink, bathtub, and toilet all get clogged due to poor plumbing. Mary and her children would love to move into a new house where they could all have separate rooms and a safe area to play.
