Portland AmeriCorps Crew Ends Service Term

DSC_0856
At the end of July, the majority of Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East’s AmeriCorps staff completed their service term in helping local families reach the dream of affordable homeownership. On the construction site or in the office, Habitat’s AmeriCorp crew is an integral part of our work in the Portland area, and their contributions allow us to impact the community in greater ways.
Through their terms here, our AmeriCorps has completed seven homes at Trillium Court in Southwest Portland, developed strategic plans for outreach in Cully, our home repair focus neighborhood, written successful grants for unique home repair projects, completed over 200 deconstructions projects, and cultivated positive relationships with partner families while streamlining our home maintenance classes and family selection process.
The work we do could not be done as well or as efficiently without our AmeriCorp team, and we want to thank each member for their service during their time with us. Our hope is that the skills they’ve refined and developed during their time in making our community stronger will be put to use improving communities wherever they go in the future. Thank you for your service!
The AmeriCorps program is a civil service program that creates jobs and provides pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
