The Aung/Khaing Family

Myo and Ohmar have two children: a 14-year-old son named Hein and a 9-year-old daughter named Thin. Myo works in assembly production and Ohmar is a room attendant. They came to the US in 2012 and have lived in Portland for over 2 years. They have already had to move since living here and do not feel safe in their crowded living situation.

Myo and Ohmar want to become homeowners so they will have more freedom and “to be safe and secure” in a permanent home with their children. Hein likes learning about science in school and wants to become a software engineer. Thin also really likes school and says she wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

The Aung-Khaing family was accepted for the homeownership program in the summer of 2015. They are excited about finally moving into their three-bedroom Habitat home.

Myo exclaims, “It was wonderful” when they found out they were accepted! The family knows owning a home will change their lives because they will feel “happy and share more time with family.”
