Meet the Jimenez Family
Fernando Jimenez and Teresa Portillo live with their three children Carlos, 20, Nathaly, 7, and Arnoldo, 2, in a two-bedroom apartment. Fernando works full-time to support the family as a set-up tech with a wire components company. Teresa stays home with Arnoldo, who is recovering from a serious operation on his spine. Carlos is a full-time student at Portland Community College studying computer information systems. Fernando and Teresa hope that their Habitat home will bring them stability so their other two children can do well in both life and school.

What is Portland Pride Build?
Portland Pride Build is a specialty build that is partnering with Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East. Portland Pride Build embraces Portland’s diversity by bringing together the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and friends to plan and build a healthy and affordable home for a family in need.
Where is the home located?
Portland Pride Build built its first home in our Lents Landing community at southeast 97th and southeast Woodstock (see above photo). Planning is underway to start the second Portland Pride Build.
When does it start?
We are now raising funds for the 2010 Portland Pride Build. As soon as we hit the $30,000 mark, we can raise the walls! If you would like to donate click here and under “program designation” click Portland Pride Build.
Who are you building the home for? Are they part of the GLBT community?
The first Portland Pride Build home was for the Jimenez family. The 2010 family has not yet been selected, but they will be a family in the Habitat program.
The selection of families who will purchase homes from Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East is done by the Family Selection committee in a way that does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, handicap, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or because all or part of the applicant’s income is derived from public assistance programs. All families selected into Habitat’s program are hardworking, earn an income of approximately $20,000-$40,000 a year, and put in 500 hours of sweat equity on their home and other Habitat projects. They will purchase the home at cost with a 0% interest mortgage.
Who can participate in Portland Pride Build?
Anyone and everyone. The mission of Portland Pride Build is to bring the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community and friends together in a fun environment to help build homes in partnership with families in need. We hope this build provides an opportunity to better understand diversity while making our community a better place one home at a time.
