Qualifying to buy a Habitat home

Families need to meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the Habitat for Humanity program:

Resident Status: Must be a United States citizen or permanent legal resident.
First-time homebuyer: Must have NOT owned a home in the past three years.
Need: Currently living in sub-standard, subsidized, or unaffordable housing.
Willingness to Partner: Must contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity”.
Ability to Pay: Must have proof of steady income, have satisfactory credit history, and be within 30-60% of the median Portland metro area household income (for example, approx. $21,350 – $42,720 for a family of four.)

How can my donation make a difference?

$10 a month

Front door – Help families open the door to a new life. With a front door, Habitat families can do and dream with peace of mind, knowing they are safe and sound inside their new home.

Insulation - Comfort and cost savings. Help a family keep warm air in during the winter, and out during the summer.
$50 a month

Cabinets – Form and function. Sturdy cabinets provide efficient kitchen storage space for secret ingredients to favorite family recipes and the pots and pans needed to make them.

Lumber – One step closer. These boards might be only two inches deep and four inches across, but each plank bridges the gap between substandard housing and a simple, decent home.
$250 a month

Lawn – Use your green to give green. A healthy lawn encourages feelings of serenity, thoughtfulness and happiness, plus it helps the environment!
$500 a month

Build a room – A dream come true. In our community, many children living in substandard housing are forced to share an overcrowded bedroom. Help make a child’s sweet dreams a reality.
