On June 15th, we celebrated over 20 Portlanders receiving keys to their brand new homes in Northeast Portland at our Cully Home Dedication & BBQ.  It was a momentous occasion and we’re overcome by the outpouring of support from our community, including our amazing Habitat homebuyers, volunteers, board members, home sponsors, legislators, partner nonprofits, and fellow Portland residents from near and far.

As the crowd gathered to witness the ceremonial exchange of keys, camaraderie was in the air as homebuyers embraced home sponsors and supporters–many of whom had built alongside each other and cemented a bond of mutual appreciation and respect.

“Habitat is about more than just building homes,” CEO Steve Messinetti announced to the tight-packed audience. “Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, community, and hope.”

Together we cheered as Habitat homebuyers became homeowners.

“This is a blessing for me,” Cecilia beamed. “I wasn’t able to afford a home and now I can! I’m really looking forward to moving into my new home.”

Soon Cecilia, Tim, Minh, Gloria, Gerardo, Jocabeth, and their families will become members of the 15-home neighborhood. With Phase 1 of Cully Place now complete, we’re halfway toward our next home dedication where even more Portland families and individuals will call this tight-knit community, home.
