The Htoo/Thi Family
The Htoo/Thi family came to the United States in 2010 from a refugee camp in Thailand. Thaw and Ku have three children ages 21, 20, and 18. Thaw currently works as a farmer and his wife is a housekeeper.
Moo Moo is their oldest child and likes learning English in school. She helps translate for her family and other families in the program that did not learn English as their first language. “I want to become a nurse because I want to help people and make people happy” explains Moo Moo.
Nakray is the oldest son and works as a cook. His younger brother Ler enjoys riding his bike and playing soccer. When Ler gets older, he says he wants “to become a police officer because I want to make our community to be a better place to live.”
The family learned about Habitat for Humanity through the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO). They felt “happy” when they were accepted and have been very involved in the program, helping build their home and the homes of their neighbors at Helensview.
